Sophie Meunier is Senior Research Scholar at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University. She is Director of the EU Program at Princeton, former Director of the Program in Contemporary European Politics and Society (2022-2024), and former Acting Director of the Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination (2023-2024). She is the author of Trading Voices: The European Union in International Commercial Negotiations (Princeton University Press, 2005) and The French Challenge: Adapting to Globalization (Brookings Institution Press, 2001), winner of the 2002 France-Ameriques book award. She is also co-editor of several books on Europe and globalization, most recently Developments in French Politics 6 (Palgrave MacMillan 2020) and Speaking with a Single Voice: The EU as an Effective Actor in Global Governance? (Routledge, 2015). Meunier is the former Chair of the European Union Studies Association (2023-2024). Her current work deals with the politics of investment screening mechanisms and the European Union's recent geoeconomic turn, including as part of the PRISM project and the Beauty Contests grant. She was made Chevalier des Palmes Academiques by the French Government.

Meunier has published many articles on the European Union, the politics of international trade, globalization, and French politics in journals such as International Organization, Foreign Affairs, and Foreign Policy. Her current research focuses on the politics of FDI in the European Union and the hosting of Chinese direct investment in Europe and the US.
Sophie Meunier is co-Director of the EU Program at Princeton. She is an elected member of the Executive Committee of the Council for European Studies (2009-2013) and was Co-Chair of the Program Committee for the 2010 CES conference. She serves on the Executive Board of the International Political Science Association's Research Committee on European Unification (2009-2012 and 2012-2016) and on the Executive Committee of the American Political Science's Association European Politics and Society Section (2010-2013). Meunier is a member of the Executive Board of the journal French Politics and the Editorial Board of the Journal of European Public Policy (since 2008). She was previously a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations (2004-2009), a member of the Advisory Board of the Transatlantic Academy of the German Marshall Fund (2008-2010), and was an elected member of the Executive Committee of the European Union Studies Association (2003-2007) and served as Secretary of this association (2005-2007). Meunier is an Associate Fellow at CIRANO in Montreal and a Senior Research Fellow at the Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations.
At Princeton Meunier is Faculty Associate of the Program in Law and Public Affairs (LAPA), the Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination (LISD), the Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance (NCGG), and the Princeton Institute on International and Regional Studies (PIIRS).
